Assistant Cross Country Coach

Responsibilities

• Assist head coach in planning and implementing training sessions tailored to various skill levels and age groups
• Support athletes during practices and competitions, providing guidance on technique, pacing, and strategy
• Help monitor athlete safety by enforcing rules, managing behavior, and ensuring proper use of equipment
• Contribute to team organization by preparing equipment, tracking attendance, and maintaining training logs
• Foster a positive team environment through encouragement, leadership, and effective communication with students and parents
• Assist in organizing team events, meets, and community outreach activities
• Support injury prevention efforts by recognizing signs of fatigue or distress and assisting with first aid or AED operation when necessary

Skills

• Experience working with children or youth in sports or educational settings
• Strong background in cross country running or related endurance sports
• Knowledge of sports-specific training instruction and coaching techniques
• Familiarity with soccer coaching, cheerleading, climbing, martial arts (such as karate or judo), basketball or other team sports is a plus
• Excellent communication skills for engaging with students, parents, and staff effectively
• Ability to manage behavior positively while maintaining discipline during practices and competitions
• Certifications in first aid and CPR; AED operation experience preferred
• Prior experience in sports coaching or physical education teaching is highly desirable
• Background in health club or gym environments is advantageous for understanding fitness fundamentals
• Demonstrated leadership skills with a proactive approach to team development and motivation
